Step by Step Candle Molds DIY Instructions - DRAFT

Step 1 :

Gather your supplies.

Needed Supplies: Candle Mold, Wick, Candle Wax, Fragrance Oil, Whisk or Spoon, 1 Sauce Pan, Wick Centering Tool, 1 Candle Wax Pitcher or Oven-Safe Glass, Aluminum Foil Tape or Silicone Putty. Optional Supplies: Wax Dye, Oven Mitts, Candle or Candy Thermometer, Wick Trimmer or Scissors.

Step 2:

Measure out your supplies. Using the conversion chart, measure out your wax, fragrance oil and wicks depending on how much your vessel can hold and how many candles you are making. Measure out wax dye if you are coloring your candles.

Make slightly more wax than you think you will need!

Step 3:

Fill sauce pan with enough water to submerge ¼ of your wax pouring pitcher and place on stovetop. Turn the stove to medium heat.

Step 4:

Fill pitcher with wax. Gently place wax-filled pitcher into water. Heat wax until it reaches 175℉. Wax should fully liquify.

Step 5:

*Skip this step if using votive molds.

While wax is melting, string wick through the wick hole at the bottom of each mold. Have at least ¾ inch of wick coming through, and secure with tape or putty.

Make sure wick hole is sealed completely to avoid spillage.

Step 6:

Remove sauce pan from heat. Add in fragrance oil and wax dye if you are coloring your wax. Stir or whisk until additions are evenly dispersed in wax.

Be cautious with hot wax. Use an oven mitt to handle hot pitcher

Step 7:

Carefully pour candle wax into the candle mold(s). Fill mold all the way to the top. Allow mold(s) to cool at room temperature for at least 24 hours. Keep leftover wax in pitcher.

Step 8:

*This step is for votive molds.

While your votives are cooling, wait for your wax to become cloudy, but still a liquid. Then, place your votive wicks in the center of each votive. Periodically check wick and recenter if needed. Allow molds to fully cool for at least 24 hours.

Step 9:

Once mold(s) are fully cooled, reheat your leftover candle wax to 175℉. Top the candle with wax until mold is filled to the top again. Allow molds to cool again for 24 hours.

Step 10:

Once mold is fully cooled, candle should easily release from mold. Once released, trim wick to be ¼ inch. Clean candle molds & workspace with dish soap and warm water.

Trim wick to quarter of an inch with a wick trimmer or scissors.

Wax Mold Tips:

Pre-heating candle molds will give you the best & smoothest candle. Heat your oven between 120 -140℉ and place candle molds(s) on a cookie sheet to warm. Warm while your wax is melting, remove when ready to pour.
You can use aluminum foil or wax paper on your workspace for worry-free spills and easy clean-up.
Use a thermometer to monitor the temperature of the melting wax.
Use dish soap and warm water to clean your workspace and supplies.
To test the color of your wax, drip a small amount onto wax paper and allow wax to harden. Wax color lightens considerably as it cools.
Let candle(s) cool in a draft-free environment for best results.
Do not burn more than 4 hours each.
