Just as thoughtful craftsmanship goes into creating your candle, a little thoughtful care goes into enjoying it. Following a few simple candle care practices helps ensure a clean and long-lasting burn. Next time you light a candle, consider the following tips:

Before every burn, trim your wick to ¼” with a wick trimmer. A trimmed wick supports a cleaner and longer burn. Northern Lights wick trimmers are designed to trim without needing to measure, but if you don't have one handy, you can use a pair of small scissors.

    Wick trimmers available here.

The first time you burn your candle, be sure to let it burn so that the “simmer pool” (melted wax) reaches the edges of the vessel. Wax has a memory and if the candle is extinguished before the simmer pool reaches the edges, it will be difficult for the candle to burn properly later.

As a candle burns lower, lighting a wick can become more difficult. A long-handled lighter lets you comfortably light the wick from the first burn to the last. The flexible neck on our Rechargeable Candle Lighter provides added precision, making it easy to access even the hardest-to-reach wicks.

A Northern Lights candle vessel is often too beautiful to part with. To reuse or repurpose it, simply place the candle in the freezer for a few hours. The remaining wax will harden and pop out easily, leaving a beautiful vessel ready for its second life. Expert Tip: Any remaining wax can be used in a wax warmer for extended fragrance!

Retired Esque® or other wax painted products are not intended for refill or reuse after the wax has been consumed. Do not attempt to remove affixed glassware inserts. For an improved burning experience, upgrade to our Esque® Luminary and refillable Luminary Candle Inserts

    SAFETY TIPS:

Do not extinguish candles with water.
Avoid burning candles, especially tapers, in drafty areas.
Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
Keep wax pools free of debris. This includes wick trimmings, dust and matches.
Burn candles within sight and away from items that can catch fire. Containers are hot when lit. Wait until molten wax has fully cooled before handling. To avoid breakage, discontinue burning a candle when 1/2in of unmelted wax remains in the bottom. Always burn candles on protected, heat-resistant surfaces.

Follow additional warnings that accompany each candle's purchase.
